The goal of Maajtaag Mnobmaadzid ("A Start of A Healthy Life") is to promote the health and wellness of Native American pregnant women, children 0-5, and caregivers. Through services like home visiting, playgroups, childbirth classes, breastfeeding education, transportation, and advocacy, our nurses, community health workers, lactation consultants, and social workers are here to help every child thrive in their first years of life. Breastfeeding support is available to all women participating in our Healthy Start/Family Spirit and MIHP home visiting program. Topics included in this program are: Ways to comfort a fussy baby, Feeding cues, Hand expression, Pumping and storing milk, Basics of breastfeeding latch and position, Health benefits of breastfeeding.
