Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development, Inc. (LA SED), is a 501c3 non-profit agency serving Hispanics and residents of Southwest Detroit since 1969. LA SED assists people of all ages with variety of bilingual services. LA SED’s leadership efforts are realized through the development programs addressing the issues that affect the diverse ethnic groups living in our community.
Recreation Center: Provides an recreation center where families and youth can exercise, take part in homework help, obtain parenting materials, preschool referrals, take part in school based integrated services, scouting programs, youth programming
Youth Enrichment Program: Provides an after school enrichment program for students. Provides educational enrichment instruction and activities in computer skills, language arts, life skills, math, cultural studies and chess. Also includes homework help and high school preparation.
Educational Summer Program: Youth can take place in multiple activities during summer months including: Educational activities, hands on projects, physical activity, and field trips.
English as a Second Language: Offers a course designed to teach non-native English speakers how to speak, write and communicate in English. Appropriate for beginners and intermediate levels. Intended to prepare students to take citizenship class. Classes meet Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm.
Citizenship Education: Prepares individuals to take the oath of U.S. citizenship and to exercise the attendant rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm.
