Homeless fathers, mothers, or couples, age 18 and over, whose children are with them. Will not accept individuals or couples without children; individuals under the influence of alcohol or drugs; victims of domestic violence or others requiring concealment for any reason; those with a documented history of violent or destructive behavior, including a history of arson or sex crime convictions.
Provides a 140-bed emergency shelter. Guests are required to leave during the day to seek education, employment, or housing. Maximum length of stay is determined on a case-by-case basis. Support services include: case management; meals; clothing; mental health assessment and referrals; social work services including housing counseling and referral to other community agencies for needed services; infant day care for children ages birth through 2 1/2 years; tutoring services for children; parenting classes; employment counseling; job search/placement; ID procurement; personal development and life skills training; adult literacy center which provides educational material and individual tutoring; GED instruction; bus tickets; and on-site medical services once a week sponsored by Detroit Health Care for the Homeless.
