Dads across Generations: Their Role, Our Future
How to effectively engage fathers during home visits Join us for a panel presentation with George Winn as guest speaker. The panel includes four multi-generational fathers moderated by Social-Emotional Health Action Team member Jason Jordan. Topics to be discussed include:
- How to engage father's during the home visits
- Importance of fathers in the lives of infants and young children
- Changing the stereotypical views of fatherhood roles
- Importance of father's building strong relationships with sons, daughters, spouse, and or significant others

About the Presenter: George Winn has a passion for and belief in the family system. He believes that our children are our future, and that we must provide innovative, high-quality services to our children and families. At the Children’s Center, Winn serves as Chief Clinical Operations Officer and member of our Leadership Team. He oversees all programs and guides development through systems reform in Child Welfare and Mental Health. He focuses on improving our internal systems in order to provide the best and most efficient services to our clients.

Winn is a native Detroiter, a proud graduate of Detroit’s Public School System. He holds a Bachelors Degree from St. Mary’s College and a Master’s in Social Work from Wayne State University. He serves on the Board of Directors for Neighborhood Legal Services of Michigan, member of the Head Start Policy Committee, Member of Great Start Collaborative and Co-Chair with Detroit Wayne County Community Mental Health’s Fatherhood Conference. He also has addressed levels of care regarding abuse/neglect, and participated in a focus group on racial disparity among children in our foster-care system. Among his many successes, Winn piloted Michigan’s first private agency contract on family to family, which increased the number of licensed foster homes and independent-living providers. He is a strong advocate for children and families, especially highlighting the vital role fathers play in the family unit and in the community. George has championed for the rights of families amongst legislators locally, Lansing, Washington and the community at large.

About the Moderator: Jason Jordan is the Children’s Services Contract Manager at Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency with responsibilities, including overseeing a wide variety of Children’s Initiative Contracts with community mental health providers throughout Wayne County. Additionally, he is actively involved in an array of collaborative projects with Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency, Department of Human Services, Juvenile Justice, Third Circuit Judicial Court and Public Schools. Prior to employment at Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency, Jason worked as an Access Coordinator for Connections Systems of Care at The Guidance Center. Jason has over sixteen years of experience working with children and families within various systems. He has worked for many non-profit organizations as Case Manager, Lead Social Worker, Clinical Supervisor and Director. His passion is to help children, youth, families and helping professionals identify barriers to overall service delivery and eliminating those barriers utilizing a Systems of Care philosophy.
